How does cellulite form?

Ah, cellulite. A mystery for many but really all it is is fat beneath the skin! It’s simple: when our fat cells get bigger they push up against the skin & the connective tissue between them pulls the skin down, causing the dimpling effect. Our circulation is weak in fatty areas so it becomes hard for our body to absorb this excess fat around our bum & thighs without help from a scrub/massage.

The skin of men vs women

Men’s skins are about 25% thicker, tougher & they have facial hair! After puberty, oil production is greater in boys (due to hormones) & so they often have longer lasting acne. Regardless of age, men also have a higher collagen density. A woman’s skin is about 15 years older than a man’s of the same age! Men are however not so sun savvy – UV/sun damage can add years to a man’s skin.

How to reduce waxing pain

1. Pop a couple of aspirin 45 mins beforehand-yes, they help with the pain but they are also anti-inflammatory. 2. Don’t schedule your wax right before your period. 3. Avoid working out and wearing tight clothing straight after your wax-your skin will be sensitive & prone to ingrown hairs. 4. Schedule your appointment between 3 & 5 pm-your pain threshold is highest at this time.

Getting bikini ready? Don’t forget your skin!

Avoid the peak UV hours of 10am to 4pm, wear dark-coloured clothes & a cap. Apply your noncomedogenic sunscreen 30 mins beforehand. When you get really hot, the natural oils on your scalp drip down your face & body & mix with your sweat, settling into pores along your hairline, neck & shoulders, causing breakouts. Wear clothes made of material like Lycra & nylon, which won’t trap sweat.
