What is the definition of health?

Health is a state of complete physical, mental & social well-being. This means that health is found holistically. Make sure that you are taking care of your complete well-being: take time for those nearest & dearest to you (social); eat & drink a healthy diet, exercise & go for checkups regularly (physical); de-stress by booking for a relaxation treatment (mental) at Miss Lily!

Sunburns & melanoma…Warning!

UV rays from the sun actually alter how skin cells create chemicals, causing the breakdown of collagen & preventing skin from repairing itself. In fact UV rays account for 80% of skin ageing. If one sustains 5 or more sunburns BEFORE THE AGE OF 18 they increase their lifetime chances of getting melanoma by 80%. If you sustain 5 or more sunburns in a lifetime you will DOUBLE your chances of getting melanoma

Cultural stress and how it affects the skin

Stress-related hormones, such as adrenaline & cortisol, damage cell walls allowing precious water to escape. This stress-induced water loss causes our cells & connective tissue to break down, which prevents our organs from functioning at optimal levels. This becomes visible in the skin and contributes to common skin problems such as acne, rosacea & even premature signs of ageing.

How to prevent razor burn

Use a sharp razor & press it gently across your skin. Use a shaving cream/oil made for sensitive skin. Wet the skin & let the cream soak in for 3 mins. Shave in the same direction as your hair grows. When shaving your legs, move from thighs to feet rather than in upward strokes. Rinse the blade between strokes for even cutting. Use a hypo-allergenic, soothing lotion to nourish & protect afterwards.
