The skin of men vs women

Men vs women in the skin arena! Men’s skins are about 25% thicker, tougher & they have facial hair! After puberty, oil production is greater in boys (due to hormones) & so they often have longer lasting acne. Regardless of age, men also have a higher collagen density. A woman’s skin is about 15 years older than a man’s of the same age! Men are however not so sun savvy – UV/sun damage can add years to a man’s skin.

This doesn’t mean men can get away with not taking care of their skin. Nowadays men are a lot more aware of their appearance and they actually care (perhaps after years of watching their other half enjoying herself while applying the most glorious smelling lotions and creams??)

Tip for men AND women: Invest in a great sunscreen – even if it is the only thing you use! We recommend Environ RAD SPF 15. It is an antioxidant sunscreen. Broad spectrum sunscreens like RAD have absorbers and reflectors in them which means, as much as it protects us from UV rays, it produces free radicals as a byproduct. Free radicals are the things that cause everything to age (sort of like when you take a bite out of an apple – that happens to our skins as we age). Antioxidants eat up free radicals for breakfast! So it is imperative to have an antioxidant sunscreen to avoid pre-mature ageing.

Go for regular facials AND maintain at home. You can never do quite the same job as a beauty therapist, so even if it is every second month (we understand the struggle of time and money!) we can still do a great job cleaning out all the gunk that builds up on the skin. Although men may “win” the men vs women debate when it comes to the skin, they still need upkeep just with a different focus to what women may need.

Miss Lily men and women both love a deep cleanse facial. Just the right amount of extraction to massage and mask ratio 😉
